Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I’m excited to announce a major victory from Olympia! Both the House and Senate have approved three citizen-driven initiatives. As the author of these proposals, I couldn’t be happier to witness these achievements, marking a significant turning point in our state.

  • Watch my video announcing the passage of all three initiatives.
  • Read my press release.
  • Learn more about the initiatives.

Last week, lawmakers held three public hearings on these proposals. You can watch those committee votes here. And then on Friday, House and Senate committees voted on and approved all three initiatives. Yesterday, they were approved in both chambers.

  • Initiative 2081 establishes a much-needed parents’ bill of rights, ensuring that parental notification rights are upheld to foster healthier and happier kids, ultimately leading to better school performance. Watch my floor speech on final passage here.

  • Initiative 2111 prohibits state and local income taxes, solidifying Washington’s commitment to supporting working families and local economies by maintaining our longstanding tradition of opposing any state tax on personal income. Watch my floor speech on final passage here.

  • Initiative 2113 restores vehicular police pursuits, which will play a significant role in lowering crime rates and ensuring the safety of our communities. Watch my floor speech on final passage here.

Notably, these initiatives are immune to modification by lawmakers, and the governor has no power to veto them. With approval by both chambers, each initiative becomes state law in ninety days.

Passage of these initiatives is excellent news for all Washingtonians. Here’s why it’s important: Restoring reasonable police pursuits of criminals and criminal suspects will help lower crime rates. Establishing a Parents’ Bill of Rights will enhance the well-being of children and families, resulting in improved school performance. Codifying Washington’s longstanding tradition of opposing any state or local tax on personal income will assist working families and strengthen local economies.

We won together!

Approval of these initiatives in both chambers is a testament to the grassroots support they’ve garnered. These victories underscore the power of common-sense conservative policies to drive positive change for everyone in our state. Together, we’ve taken a significant step forward in addressing the issues that matter most to the people of Washington.

Three approved and three going to the ballot

Democrats, who hold a legislative majority in both chambers, have refused to advance three of the six citizen-driven initiatives at the Legislature. Consequently, these initiatives will appear on the November ballot. They are:

Thank you!

Stay tuned for further updates from me as we near the conclusion of the 2024 session. Your ongoing support and dedication to improving Washington for everyone are greatly appreciated.
