The newly-elected Republican state representative from Aberdeen has just been appointed to serve on three committees in the Washington House of Representatives. John Sattgast reports from Olympia.

Sattgast: Representative Jim Walsh was sworn into office December 8th. This week, he received his House committee assignments.

Walsh will serve on the Local Government Committee, the Capital Budget Committee, and the Business and Financial Services Committee.

The 19th District lawmaker says he will work within the Local Government Committee to put reasonable limits on the permitting process and get unfunded mandates under control.

For too long, Walsh says the 19th District has been ignored in the state's capital construction budget. He wants to change that. As a member of that committee, Walsh says he wants to get local government infrastructure projects the attention they deserve.

And finally, the Aberdeen small business owner hopes to use his experience to effect positive change on issues before the House Business and Financial Services Committee.

Jim Walsh is only the second Republican elected to the state House from the 19th District in the last 70 years. He said he's ready to make a difference for local citizens when the Legislature convenes for the 2017 session on Jan. 9th.
