Rep. Jim Walsh hopes $200,000 in additional funding for Aberdeen School District remains in final supplemental operating budget

The supplemental operating budget proposal that passed the Washington State House of Representatives on February 28 included $200,000 in additional funding for the Aberdeen School District. The funding would be an additional Local Effort Assistance (LEA) payment.

Rep. Jim Walsh, R-Aberdeen, worked to help secure the additional funding through an amendment and is hopeful it remains in the final supplemental operating budget that will be released this week.

“We fought hard to get these necessary adjustments in the House operating budget,” said Walsh, R-Aberdeen. “Everyone knows that the prototypical school budget model is categorically unfair to small, rural school districts. This funding helps even the playing field between urban and rural schools. To keep this financial lifeline in the budget, the majority party must do the right thing and fight for these adjustments. I sure hope they do.”

The 2020 legislative session is scheduled to end on March 12.
