Rep. Jim Walsh seeks to amend bill that removes penalties for students that willfully damage school property

Rep. Jim Walsh, R-Aberdeen, offers an amendment to a bill that would remove penalties for students that willfully damage school property or other property belonging to the school district, teachers, staff, or another student.

The 19th District lawmaker's remarks include strong disapproval of allowing students who purposefully damage school property to not be penalized.

Walsh's amendment was rejected, and House Bill 1176 passed the House Education Committee with a 7 to 5 party-line vote. The bill now heads to the Rules Committee, where it awaits a vote on the House floor.
